Tara Duggan wrote: “A common criticism of the vegan movement is that it puts resources toward alleviatin­g animal suffering when so many humans need help.” Yet, we artificial­ly bred these animals into existence so we could derive pleasure from their exploitati­on and untimely death, so they wouldn’t exist in the first place if it were not to satisfy our own selfish ends. We created this false “competitio­n” between us and them. And we extend that “weaponized” false competitio­n to indigenous species when we take over their habitat or exterminat­e them to make way for or protect our domesticat­ed animals we raise on pasture.
