Taxi driver faces charge of hit-and-run in deadly collision on Peninsula
A taxi driver was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-andrun after striking and killing a pedestrian crossing a street near Redwood City early Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident unfolded at about 2:25 a.m. as the pedestrian was crossing Middlefield Road just south of Flynn Avenue in an unincorporated area of San Mateo County. He was struck by a Ford Crown Victoria taxi heading south on Middlefield Road, CHP officials said.
The taxi struck the man and kept going, CHP reported.
The suspect vehicle was found several hours later, and its suspected driver, Simon Hernandez Gonzalez, was arrested about 9:40 a.m. at his home in Redwood City, officials said.
Gonzalez was booked in San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City on suspicion of felony hit-and-run with injury, CHP reported. He is being held on $50,000 bail.
The victim is believed to have been homeless and has not yet been identified, according to CHP.
