Dr. Lauren Battat Gerson, a Gastroente­rologist practicing at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, passed away on Friday, July 21, after a valiant battle against metastatic melanoma.

Dr. Gerson was the beloved wife of Bill Gerson, a lawyer at Apple Inc., and the adoring mother of Stephanie, a student at Woodside High School, Jackie, a student at UC Santa Barbara, and Andrew, a graduate of UCLA. She was a treasured daughter of Eileen and Ralph Battat of Hillsborou­gh, and the beloved sister of Margie (Jeff) Klapper of Menlo Park and of Peter Battat, who predecease­d her.

Dr. Gerson was a graduate of Princeton University, SUNY Buffalo Medical School, and the Stanford University School of Medicine. She served as a fellow and faculty member at Stanford Hospital for over 15 years, and became an internatio­nally acclaimed published researcher in her field. The American College of Gastroente­rolgy elected Dr. Gerson to serve on its board of trustees for 2016-2017. Dr. Gerson enjoyed entertaini­ng friends and family, and was an avid tennis player, skier, figure skater, pianist and flautist at holiday observance­s. She will be dearly missed by her loving family, friends and colleagues.

A memorial service and reception will be held at Peninsula Temple Sholom, 1655 Sebastian Drive, Burlingame at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26. In place of flowers, donations may be made to Peninsula Temple Sholom or to the Foundation of the California Pacific Medical Center.
