Rockies acquire reliever Neshek

-

Pat Neshek was the Phillies’ most soughtafter trade chip, and he has found a new home.

After Wednesday’s game, Philadelphis traded the right-hander to Colorado for three lowlevel minor leaguers: a starter, a reliever and a shortstop. Neshek, who pitched for the A’s in 2012 and ’13, owns a 1.12 ERA in 43 appearances this season.

In return, the Phillies received right-handers Alejandro Requena and J.D. Hammer and shortstop Jose Gomez. All three were in Single A ball. Requena and Gomez are 20. Hammer is 23. Beltre tossed: Adrian Beltre of the Rangers was ejected during a 22-10 loss against the Marlins while waiting on deck to bat in the eighth inning.

Beltre, who already had three hits in the game to increase his career total to 2,996, was getting loose outside the on-deck circle when second-base umpire and crew chief Gerry Davis motioned for him to get closer to it. So Beltre dragged the large plastic piece that marks the circle closer to him.

Davis immediately ejected Beltre, and manager Jeff Banister was tossed after coming out and arguing at length. All-Star Garcia hurt: The White Sox said outfielder Avisail Garcia has a right thumb injury that will sideline the All-Star for a couple of weeks.

Garcia complained of continued discomfort in his thumb after the White Sox lost 7-2 to the Cubs on Tuesday. He got an MRI exam Wednesday that revealed a strained ligament. Garcia, 26, is batting .303 with 13 homers and 54 RBIs in 88 games. Cubs cut Anderson: The Cubs parted ways with former A’s left-hander Brett Anderson.

Anderson, 29, had been sidelined by a lower back strain. He was activated from the 60-day disabled list before Wednesday night’s game against the White Sox and then designated for assignment.

Anderson signed a $3.5 million, one-year contract with the Cubs over the winter. He went 2-2 with an 8.18 ERA in six starts. Keuchel to start Friday: All-Star left-hander Dallas Keuchel is set to rejoin the Astros’ rotation Friday at Detroit.

The 2015 AL Cy Young Award winner has not pitched since June 2 because of a neck injury that sent him to the disabled list for the second time this year. He was 9-0 with a 1.67 ERA in his previous 11 starts before going on the disabled list, leaving him at 10-1 this season.

“I’ve been looking forward to this for a while,” Kuechel said before Wednesday’s game against Philadelphia. “I feel great. It’s go time.”
