- By Vivian Ho

A veteran San Francisco police officer was arrested Wednesday on a child pornography charge in Contra Costa County, authorities said.

Joshua Enea, 37, of Antioch was charged with one count of possessing child or youth pornography, according to the Contra Costa County district attorney’s office.

The San Francisco Police Department’s Internet crimes against children unit first discovered that Enea allegedly had been in possession of child pornography in February, San Francisco police officials said.

Investigators with the department’s internal affairs unit began an “immediate” parallel investigation, police said, and removed Enea from direct contact with the public.

San Francisco officers took him into custody Wednesday, booking him into Contra Costa County jail. He has since been suspended without pay.

“The public’s trust is of the utmost importance to the members of the SFPD,” department officials said in a statement. “The department will continue to work hard with the community to build and maintain this trust. As the department has emphasized in the past, members will continue to hold each other accountable and will act

swiftly to report any behavior that might bring dishonor to the Police Department and the city of San Francisco.”

Enea, a 10-year veteran of the force, once ran a training program for city officers to help them recognize behavioral patterns of drunken subjects. He earned a total of $191,104.84 in 2016, according to Transparent California.

No arraignment date has been scheduled.
