Atomic Blonde: Charlize Theron stars as what is being billed as the female version of James Bond. She’s an undercover MI6 agent sent to Berlin to find a list that identifies who the double agents are. James McAvoy and John Goodman also star.

Detroit: Kathryn Bigelow directs this movie based on events that occurred during the infamous riots of 1967. This story focuses on the murder of three African Americans at a hotel in the Motor City. John Boyega and Anthony Mackie star.

The Emoji Movie: Among the little symbols starring in the movie are Hi-5, Smiler, Mel and Mary Meh, Poop, Akiko Glitter, Flamenca, and Gene. Among the all-star talent agreeing to lend their voices are T.J. Miller, James Corden, Anna Faris, Christina Aguilera, Rachael Ray and Patrick Stewart as the Poop.

Family Life: A young man takes advantage of the lifestyle of a distant relative and gets involved with one of his neighbors.

Landline: “Obvious Child” director Gillian Robespierr­e and actor Jenny Slate reunite in this movie set in 1990s Manhattan.

Maurice: Based on E.M. Forster’s novel, this thendaring 1987 Merchant-Ivory film about gay romance at the turn of the 20th century is getting a rerelease in 4K. Stars Hugh Grant, James Wilby and Rupert Graves.

The Midwife: Catherine Deneuve and Catherine Frot star in this French movie about a woman (Frot) getting some unexpected requests from her father’s ex-mistress (Deneuve). Martin Provost, who directed the Simone de Beauvoir biopic, directs and co-wrote this film.

The Last Face: Charlize Theron gets two openings this week (see “Atomic Blonde”) as she also stars in a film about an aid worker and a doctor (Javier Bardem) who help people in war-torn Africa. Directed by Sean Penn.
