Ventana’s new look and name
With the new Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge predicted to open in mid- to late September, one Big Sur resort south of the damaged Highway 1 structure has set Oct. 1 as the debut of its own transformation.
Built in 1975, Ventana Inn & Spa has been closed since storms weakened the bridge in February. It will reopen this fall as Ventana Big Sur, following a multimillion-dollar “reimagination” of the inn’s 59 guest rooms and its renamed Sur House restaurant, Social House lounge and Spa Alila.
Among other additions, the new Glass House Gallery will showcase local artists, while the existing Meadow Pool will sport a new infinity-edge hot tub. (Some may be relieved to know the Mountain Pool, next to the Japanese-style hot baths, will remain clothing-optional.) Rates will start at $675 a night.
Ventana’s glamping program has also been revamped and renamed. The Redwood Canyon Glampsites —15 safari-style tents in a 20-acre canyon — will feature plush decor with daily housekeeping and nightly turn-down services. The campground’s new Bath House will host teak-enclosed tiled showers, heated floors, marble vanities and restrooms. Rates start at $325 per night; an optional $100 fee grants access to Ventana’s fitness center, spa, Social House and two pools.
