Canha recalled again

- By John Shea John Shea is The San Francisco Chronicle’s national baseball writer.

Mark Canha is hoping this third-time-is-a-charm business isn’t just a cliche but a reality.

Canha hit .105 his first goround with the A’s this season and .214 in his second stint, each resulting in demotions to Triple-A Nashville. Neither of his big-league stays was long (29 games combined), and now he’s pushing for more permanency. “I’m not going to put pressure on myself or say, ‘You’ve got to hit this time’ or ‘You’ve got to make it work this time,’ ” said Canha, who was recalled from Nashville on Wednesday. “I’m just going to enjoy myself and play baseball, have fun.

“The thing I’ve realized is, going up and down is tough, and you can make it stressful on yourself if you want to. But at this point in my career, I’m just trying to enjoy it. That’s the way I feel success happens easiest anyway.”

Canha, 28, hit .293 with seven homers and 30 RBIs in 46 games in his latest visit to Nashville. He said recommendations from teammate Jermaine Curtis — “He said I was flying open with my front hip”— helped get Canha back on course.

“I pieced that and took all other parts of my swing together and started seeing some success,” Canha said. “I was seeing the ball a little better and driving the ball with lot more power. Everything kind of fell into place. I was feeling like myself a little bit more.”

Canha had a productive rookie season in 2015 (16 homers, 70 RBIs) but was limited to 16 games in 2016 and underwent season-ending hip surgery May 24.

The addition of Canha gave manager Bob Melvin a deeper bench as the A’s crossed the bay to play National League-style baseball.

Canha took the roster spot of reliever — and fellow Cal alum — Michael Brady, who was optioned to Nashville after throwing six innings out of the bullpen Tuesday and wouldn’t have been available to pitch for a few days anyway.

Briefly: Khris Davis was out of the lineup with a minor hamstring issue but was available off the bench . ... Kendall Graveman will be reinstated from the disabled list to start Thursday, replacing Chris Smith, who was moved to the bullpen, at least for the interim.
