March 10, 1934 - July 2, 2017

Bob was born in Pontiac, MI in 1934 to William Ward of Glasgow, KY and Dorothy Guirle Ward of Indiana. After majoring in art and history at Michigan State University, he served in Army counterintelligence in Korea before joining Shillito’s, a large department store in Cincinnati, and soon establishing himself as a furniture buyer. In 1974 he became a senior buyer for Macy’s California in San Francisco where he remained through retirement in 1999. He was well-known in the furniture industry for his strong personal and business ethics, his passion for the field, and his enjoyment of the “people” part of the job.

Bob is survived by his beloved family: Lois, his wife and best friend of 56 years; their sons Brad of Menlo Park, CA and Craig of Pasadena, CA with his daughter-in-law Katie and grandsons Chris and Brian; and his sister Helen Takas of Wilmington, NC. Favorite pastimes included exploring America’s scenic wonders, particularly the West, with Lois and spending time at the coast in and around Marin County, their home for 42 years. A lifelong avid sports fan, he supported hometown teams wherever he lived, most recently basking in the success of the Warriors and Giants. His abiding interest in and love for people touched all who entered his life, from family, friends and colleagues to the most fleeting acquaintance.
