Known as Bob to his associates and friends, Robert passed peacefully at his home with his wife, Lee Smith, and his long time caregiver, Ernesto, at his side. He is survived by his children Carol Nakamoto (Taro), Scott Jenks, Leslie Jenks Phillips (Nigel) and Raymond Jenks (Jerry) and by his Grandchildren Cory Nakamoto (Rose) and Megan Nakamoto Nasser (Greg) and Great Grandchildren Kai and Luke Nakamoto and Isley Nasser with a new Great Granddaughter expected in the fall. He and family and friends were blessed to have time with each other during the months before his passing.
Born to John Clifford and Ada Bruyn Jenks in Monmouth, IL, one of eight children; he is survived by his brothers Lynn and Russell. He served his country in WWII as a navigator in a B-24 in the Philippines.
After the war, he graduated from Berkeley School of Architecture, and pursued a long and successful career in San Francisco and Palo Alto, CA. He told the story of his brief meeting Frank Lloyd Wright and was privileged to have worked for a time with Edward Durell Stone. He partnered with John Boyd in Palo Alto and spent over 40 years designing homes and commercial properties.
Building things that last was his passion. Not only architecture, but relationships. His friends, associates and loving family are testament his success in life. He is sorely missed. There will be a celebration of his life on August 26 in Palo Alto.
