Monte passed away peacefully on July 8 with his family by his side. He was born in Los Angeles, California on August 22, 1926 to Wilton and Bernice (Mabry) Hill. He was their only child.

At age one, the family moved to San Francisco. Monte grew up in the Excelsior and attended San Miguel Elementary School and James Denman Middle School. He graduated from Balboa High School in June, 1944 and enlisted in the Navy on July 14, 1944. Monte served in the South Pacific on the USS Broadwater APA 139 for the duration of the war. His ship entered Tokyo Bay on October 13, 1945 and remained as a unit of naval occupation forces until November, 1945. After discharge from the Navy he graduated from City College of San Francisco.

Monte married Ruth Allen, his high school sweetheart, on June 5, 1949 and was the proud father of Janice Hill and David Hill. He worked for 50 years as a San Francisco movie projectionist while a member of IATSE.

In retirement he was a member of the Balboa alumni Geezers lunch group. Monte was always a car enthusiast and enjoyed being part of the pit crew for his son’s race car. He also liked to travel and spend time in the Delta.

Friends are invited to a memorial service on Wednesday, August 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 201 Eucalyptus Drive, San Francisco. A reception will follow. Donations in Monte’s memory may be made to St. Anthony Foundation, P.O. Box 39000, San Francisco 94139-0001; Lakeside Presbyterian Church; or to the charity of your choice.
