Elena Dobosh

-

84, of San Francisco, CA passed away peacefully on Sat, July 22 in Chestnut Hill, MA. Born in Chinandega, Nicaragua she was the daughter of Gustavo and Elena (Balladares) Chavez, and is predeceased by her sisters Nelly, Rina, and Miriam, and her brother Gustavo Jr. In the late 1960s she moved to San Francisco in pursuit of the American dream. There she fell in love with her husband, Michael, and she gave birth to her only child, Larissa Glass (of Newton, MA) in 1972. Elena will be remembered by all as a fiercely independent, courageous, and selfless woman who put her family first above all other things. She was an amazing cook, and was famous for her rice pudding, the recipe for which she guarded fiercely! She loved to dance the Cumbia and swim in the ocean, especially the warm water of the Pacific where her family once had a summer home at Miramar (outside Chinandega). Being a voracious reader in her younger days, she was often seen relaxing there in a hammock with a novel underneath the coconut trees. She will be laid to rest there later this month when her devoted daughter and son-in-law Alan Glass (also of Newton, MA) together with her two adoring grandchildren, Jeremy and Lindsay Glass, and several of her nieces and nephews will disperse her ashes in those warm waters of the Pacific. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (Alz.org) in honor of Elena.
