Friedel Murphy

March 31, 1931 - July 31, 2017

It is with great sorrow that we announce that Friedel Murphy has passed away Monday night, July 31, 2017 at 7pm at her home in Burlingame California. She is survived by her beloved son Kevin Murphy of Chandler, Arizona and her daughters MaryAnn Murphy of Burlingame, California and Madeline Crenshaw of Danville, California along with numerous grandsons and granddaughters.

Friedel (maiden name: Neumeier) was born in March 31, 1931 in the village of Kelheim, in Bavaria, Germany. As a young girl, she enjoyed ice skating, swimming and rowing on the nearby Danube River, and climbing the hills to the nearby Liberation Hall with her friends. Friedel discovered her vocation early in life and trained as a nurse at various teaching hospitals throughout Germany as a young girl. In 1956, with her newly-minted Nurse’s certificate in hand, she immigrated to the USA and got her first job as a nurse in San Francisco. In 1958, she married her beloved husband William Kevin Murphy (originally from Abbey Leix, Ireland) at the Cliff House in San Francisco. In 1960, they had their first child Kevin, followed by MaryAnn in 1963, and Madeline in 1965.

Friedel was a life-long caregiver and as a Nurse took great pride in helping people at the various hospitals and retirement homes she worked at during her illustrious 40-year career as a nurse in the Bay Area.

She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who came in contact with her. She enriched the lives of all who knew her with her kindness, generosity, honesty and compassion.

Visitation will be on Sunday August 6th from 6 PM until 8 PM where the Vigil service will begin at 7 PM at Chapel of the Highlands Mortuary located in Millbrae, California. The funeral Mass will be held Monday August 7th at 10 AM at Our Lady of Angels Church located in Burlingame, California. Burial will be later in the day at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma where Friedel will be buried next to her beloved husband.
