SAN FRANCISCO Dorothy passed away peacefully July 24, 2017, in the presence of family members.

She was raised on a ranch in rural Nebraska, and came to the Bay Area as a young adult. She met Timothy “Big Tim” Thorsen in the Sonoma Town Square. They married at Hanna Boys Center where Tim was working. Tim was a SF native, so they moved to Holy Name parish in the Sunset district to raise their 5 children.

Dorothy was a big Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, “Go Big Red”. She also enjoyed her daily crossword puzzle and loved music. She even taught herself to play the piano. She was a dedicated Democrat and never missed a vote.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Timothy Thorsen, parents Cecil and Letha Tinder and step-father James Kirby.

She is survived by her children: Julie, Eric (Frances), Tom (Laura), Mary (Tony), and Mark (Cathy), and her 7 grandchildren: Tim, Willy, Tara, Alisa, Emily, Sarah and Carmen. She is also survived by her sisters: Betty Ann Bourg, June Brock and Joetta (Arnie) Bunter and sister-in-law Gloria Thorsen, along with many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy will be missed greatly by us all and remembered for her generosity and honesty. A special thanks to her caregivers, daughter Julie and Helen Falcasantos.

She was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery with her family in attendance. A Memorial will be held to celebrate her life on September 9th, 12 noon at the Irish Cultural Center.
