Sister Christine Marie of St. Joseph of the Little Sisters of the Poor, was born Huguette Blondel in Briennon, France. She was the third of 15 children born to Louis Blondel and Marguerita Bourbon. She is survived by nine brothers and sisters and by many nieces and nephews in France.

Sr. Christine took her vows as a Little Sister of the Poor on January 15, 1958 and spent the last 59 years of her life in direct service to the elderly. Although a native of France, she spent her entire religious life in the United States caring for the elderly needy in the Homes of the Little Sisters of the Poor from New York to California. She came to St. Anne’s Home in San Francisco for the second time in 2011. Even in illness, Sr. Christine gave completely of herself to render service where needed. She was extraordinarily hard working, but will be most lovingly remembered for her sense of humor, radiant smile, perpetually kind words, and gentle attentiveness to the elderly.

All services will be held at St. Anne’s Home. Viewing will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2017, 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with Vigil Service at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.

Donations honoring the elderly poor served by Sr. Christine may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Anne’s Home, 300 Lake Street, San Francisco.
