Jeter group to buy Marlins

-

Owner Jeffrey Loria has agreed to sell the Miami Marlins to former Yankees star Derek Jeter and his business partner, Bruce Sherman, multiple media outlets reported Friday.

The investment group is said to have more than 10 other investors, including Michael Jordan.

If the deal for the team, reportedly for $1.17 billion, goes through, Sherman would become the managing general partner, and Jeter, who reportedly put in $25 million of his own money, would be the point person for baseball operations, reports said.

No party connected to the reported deal has commented publicly. It would probably be weeks before Jeter’s group is confirmed. Scare for McCutchen: Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen exited Friday’s game against the Blue Jays because of a sore left knee.

Tests performed at the stadium showed no damage, and McCutchen said his knee was feeling better following the game.

“I was just taking my secondary lead and my knee kind of grabbed,” McCutchen said. “If your knee could get a cramp, that’s what it felt like.”

Briefly: Yankees left-hander CC Sabatthia was put on the 10-day disabled list because of right knee inflammation. The move was retroactive to Wednesday . ... The Mariners placed left-hander ace James Paxton on the DL because of a pectoral strain . ... The Cubs said catcher Willson Contreras is expected to be out at least four weeks because of a strained right hamstring.
