Michael Loyd passed away peacefully at his Fair Oaks home on August 4, 2017.

Mike grew up in So. St. Paul, MN, son of Dan and Julia Lojovich. After graduating from So. St. Paul HS, he enlisted in the US Navy in January 1944. He served aboard the USS Alabama during WWII and was discharged from the Navy in 1946. After learning how to fly, he joined the US Army Air Corps and attended initial pilot training at Randolph Field, TX, where he graduated as a First Lieutenant, class 48-C. He served in the USAF, both active and reserve, from 1947 until 1966. Awards and medals include the WWII Pacific Operation and the Korean War Air Medal. In 1956 Mike began working for United Airlines, flying 737s out of SFO, retiring as a Captain in 1986.

Mike met his beloved wife Ginger (Markel), at the SF Fairmont Hotel’s Officers’ Club in 1952. At the time of his death, they were happily married for 65 years. He is survived by Ginger, their 3 daughters, Pati (Norm) Lacy, Terrin (Tom) Henderson, Marybeth (Tim) Bock; their 2 sons, Pete (Tina) and Tim (Polly); 13 grandchild­ren, 6 great-grandchild­ren, and his 4 siblings.

Mike was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy parish in Westlake, and of the San Francisco Olympic Club. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and Papa; lover of golf, swimming, crossword puzzles, and spending time at the family’s cabin in Twain Harte.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass and celebratio­n of life on Sept. 23rd, 2017 at 11am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Carmichael, CA.
