Richard “Rick” Roth
November 3, 1946 - August 15, 2017
Richard died peacefully at the family home in San Francisco. Richard was born at the US Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Andrew and Olympia Roth. He was raised in San Francisco and attended San Francisco public schools. Richard’s first and only full time job was that of Property Clerk at San Francisco General Hospital. He retired from that position in 2004.
Richard had a life-long hobby with ham radios. He had become quite the expert in the field, providing mentorship and instruction to many. This passion led to his numerous volunteer endeavors for the Red Cross, Millbrae CERT, the San Mateo Emergency Services and various civic organizations involving crowd management and emergency response. Most recently, Richard served as the Docent Scheduler and Accessibility Consultant for the Peninsula Museum of Art.
Although he was born facing an uphill battle with Cerebral Palsy, Richard not only overcame his disabilities, but thrived despite them, making lifelong friends and working to help the unfortunate and right the wrongs of the numerous inequities that came across his path. He was most comfortable “tooling” through Burlingame on his motorized and fully equipped scooter, while blasting “oldies” music from his speakers.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother Olympia. He is survived by his father Andrew, and his siblings, Susan (Ray) Molinari, Ron (DeeDee) Roth, Janette (Mark) Parachini, and Jeff (Joan) Roth. He will be missed by his numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family.
Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation from 5-7pm and Vigil Service at 7pm on Monday, August 21st, 2017 at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City, CA. A Celebration of Life will be held at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary on Tuesday, August 22nd at 10:30am. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s name to the Pomeroy Recreation and Rehabilitation Center, 207 Skyline Blvd. San Francisco, CA 94132.
