Rajai Davis

The outfielder traded by the A’s to the Red Sox this week says he can’t wait to get another taste of the playoffs after going to the World Series with Cleveland last season. “They’re like candy,” he said in Boston. “I just can’t get enough of them.” Davis should start for the AL East leaders Friday against Baltimore at Fenway Park. Davis, 36, hit .233 with 26 stolen bases, five home runs and 18 RBIs in 100 games with Oakland. “Rajai is an ideal fit for what we were looking for,” Boston manager John Farrell said. “He can be a game-changer with his speed and base-stealing ability.” Davis led the AL with 43 stolen bases with the Indians in 2016. His dramatic two-run homer off Cubs closer Aroldis Chapman in the eighth inning tied Game 7 of the World Series.

Roger Federer

After going 4½ years without collecting a major championship, the tennis great heads into Monday’s start of the U.S. Open with a chance to win his third such trophy of 2017. Even he can’t believe it. “I mean, I have a hard time thinking I could win three Slams in one year. It just sounds totally surreal to me,” Federer said. “But I’ll prepare myself the best way possible, so that I will have the best chance to really excel there in New York.” Federer has won the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2017, and turned 36 on Aug. 8, making him older than all but two men to have won the most important tennis tournament held in the United States, an event first held in 1881.
