Rohnert Park crash kills motorcyclist
A motorcyclist was killed in Rohnert Park on Wednesday evening when he crashed into a pickup truck that police say was driven by a 63-year-old man whose blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit.
The crash occurred just before 6 p.m. on Snyder Lane near the University Square shopping center. A green Ford pickup truck operated by Robert Bosch collided with a 2008 Honda CBR 600 motorcycle driven by Fabian Carreras-Hermosillo, authorities said.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Carreras-Hermosillo, 23, of Rohnert Park lying in the middle of the street surrounded by bystanders performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him, authorities said.
Carreras-Hermosillo died en route to a hospital, officials said.
Witnesses told investigators that Carreras-Hermosillo was going 30 to 35 mph when Bosch made a left turn into his path, police said.
Carreras-Hermosillo did not have time to slow down, and his motorcycle slammed into the right side of Bosch’s truck, police said. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from his bike and landed in the street.
Following the collision, Bosch, also of Rohnert Park, hit a sign at the entrance to a nearby parking lot, stopped his 1999 Ford Ranger and began to slowly walk away from the scene, police said. He was quickly detained by officers and taken to a police station for evaluation.
His blood alcohol content was 0.26 percent, about three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent, police said.
Bosch was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and booked into Sonoma County Jail, where he was being held on $100,000 bail.
