Partial win for Watt: game funds to relief

-

J.J. Watt still thinks the Houston-Dallas preseason game shouldn’t be played Thursday because of catastrophic flooding in Houston, but the star defensive end is getting his wish that money generated by the exhibition finale will go to Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts.

The Texans, who are in charge of the game since they are technically the home team, said Tuesday that tickets and parking will be $25 apiece.

“I think the only good thing that can possibly come out of a game on Thursday would be a massive fundraiser,” Watt said. “This is bigger than football.”

Watt also reiterated his stance that the game originally scheduled for Houston should have been scrapped instead of moved. Brooks visits Packers: With Clay Matthews and Nick Perry, the Green Bay Packers feel great about their starting outside linebackers. The depth hasn’t quite developed, though, which is why the team hosted Ahmad Brooks. The 49ers released the 2013 All-Pro last week.

Brooks, 33, would be the third-oldest player on the Packers, which lost veterans Julius Peppers and Datone Jones to free agency. All-Pro Haden shopped: Joe Haden’s bounce-back season might not happen with the Browns. The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback, who has been limited by injuries the past two years, is reportedly being shopped.

Following Tuesday’s practice, Cleveland coach Hue Jackson did not deny a CBSSports.com report that the Browns are “aggressively trying to trade” Haden.

Haden is to make $11.1 million this season, and the Browns could be trying to unload his contract to add a wide receiver because the team lacks playmakers at that position.

It’s possible the Browns could call and offer Haden to Indianapolis, which will be without Pro Bowl cornerback Vontae Davis. Colts coach Chuck Pagano said Tuesday that Davis had suffered a “pretty significant” groin injury last week against Pittsburgh.
