Galileo tops San Lorenzo

Very few running backs from the Academic Athletic Associatio­n have entered a season with as much promise and hype as Galileo’s Yarvell Smith.

And Saturday, the sophomore lived up to the lofty expectatio­ns for him, as he led the Lions to a 30-7 win over visiting San Lorenzo (1-1).

Smith, who rushed for about 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns as a freshman, scored on runs of 10, 2 and 91 yards in the season-opening win. His two third-quarter TDs broke the game open.

Quarterbac­k Adrian Poot connected with

Jackie Guo on a 4-yard TD pass, and again for a twopoint conversion to finish the scoring midway in the fourth quarter. Acalanes-Lafayette 21, Suncoast-Riviera Beach (Fla.) 14:

Robby Rowell threw three touchdown passes to lift the Dons (2-0) over the Chargers (0-2) in a game played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Fla. Menlo School-Atherton 56, Stevenson-Pebble Beach 6: Aidan Israelski returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for his first of three first-quarter touchdowns as the host Knights (1-1) cruised past the Pirates (0-1). Maria Carrillo-Santa Rosa 45, Redwood-Larkspur 20: Tyler Van Arden rushed for more than 200 yards and three touchdowns as the visiting Pumas (1-1) beat the Giants (0-2) in a morning contest. Alex Aguero returned a kick 94 yards for a TD for Redwood and had an intercepti­on to set up the first score.

Showdown canceled: Marin Catholic-Kentfield, No. 10 in the Chronicle Top 25, had to cancel its home matchup with fourtime CIF State Bowl champion, Central Catholic-Modesto, due to heat and air quality.
