Rosemarie Basso

March 31, 1945 - September 11, 2017

Our beautiful Rosie lost her long battle with interstitial lung disease and leukemia on Monday, September 11. A true example of strength, courage and grace, she fought to the end with her devoted husband and children by her side.

Loving wife to her beloved Dave. Much loved mother of Greg Basso (Heather), Dave Basso (Katie), and Lisa Capobianco (Colin). Also a loving Nonni to her cherished grandchildren Vinny, Carter, Cali, Grace, Elena, Michael, and Chase.

Rosie was born on March 31, 1945, to her late mother Agnes O’Shea and father Michael O’Shea. She is survived by her sister Maureen O’Shea and her brother Patrick O’Shea (Ellie) of South Carolina. Growing up in San Francisco, Rosie attended St. Monica’s and went on to graduate from Presentation High School. After two years at City College of San Francisco, Rosie pursued a career in Human Resources at Livingston Bros. Department Stores. In 1968, Rosie met her soulmate, Dave, and they soon married, started a family raising four children in Terra Linda, and have been a true example of love and devotion for 47 years.

Rosie’s greatest passion was her family and her friends. She was a loyal and caring wife, mother, nonni and friend, and in turn was blessed with family and friends who gave her so much joy and happiness throughout her life. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with her family, spoil her grandchildren, and smile and laugh with her friends. She was forever grateful for the love and joy her grandchildren gave her on a daily basis. Rosie’s other great passion was helping others in need, especially children. After tragically losing her son, Michael, she and Dave spearheaded a foundation in Mike’s memory to help the less fortunate. Rosie devoted the past twentyfour years to bringing a smile to so many children and families throughout the Bay Area.

Rosie was also blessed with her “angels” on Earth who cared for her during her many years of adversity with health issues, especially the UCSF Lung Transplant doctors and nurses and her caregiver, Meg DufficyKang. Rosie’s heart and soul will forever be grateful for her “guardian angel,” her loving husband Dave, who was with her every single step of the way on her journey.

A memorial mass in celebration of Rosie’s life will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017. It will begin at 11am at St. Vincent’s Church located at One St. Vincent’s Church Drive, San Rafael, CA 94903.

In lieu of flowers, please give someone you love a hug. Life is precious.

Memorial donations preferred to The Michael Basso Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 6112, San Rafael, CA 94903-0112 or the charity of your choice.
