49ers beat:

Safety Reid suffers knee injury; game review.

SEATTLE — Several of the 49ers’ starters have sustained serious leg injuries in Seattle in recent years, and it appeared safety Eric Reid would join that group Sunday.

Reid sustained a noncontact knee injury while covering a deep pass late in the second quarter of the 49ers’ 12-9 loss to the Seahawks and stayed on the turf for several minutes. However, Reid briefly returned to the game after halftime before exiting permanently in the third quarter.

“It doesn’t feel too bad,” Reid said. “It just got to the point where I couldn’t run on it any more.”

Reid said he had swelling in his left knee and would have an MRI exam Monday. His availability for Thursday’s game against the Rams at Levi’s Stadium is in question.

“I think my cleat got stuck in the turf,” Reid said. “I hate turf. My knee kind of wiggled. So I’m hoping it’s just a sprain or something.”

With Reid out, safety Jimmie Ward received extensive action in his 2017 debut. The 49ers started Jaquiski Tartt and planned to use Ward in their dime package. He was listed as questionable for the game because of a hamstring injury he sustained July 27 that has prevented him participating in a full practice.

Ward finished with five tackles and a pass breakup.

“It felt good,” Ward said of his hamstring. “... I didn’t think about it. I just went out there and played fast.” Hit on Hoyer: Quarterback Brian Hoyer had a scrape and small bandage on his forehead after the game, compliments of Seattle linebacker Frank Clark.

Hoyer was bruised by Clark in the third quarter when the 49ers called a timeout with the play clock winding down. Left tackle Joe Staley stood up from his stance when the officials blew the whistle, but Clark kept playing and buried Hoyer with a blindside hit. No penalty was called. Hoyer clearly was agitated about the incident when asked about it after the game: “You would like to think they would keep them from hitting you when they blow the whistle,” he said.

It was noted that Staley heard the whistle and didn’t block.

Said Hoyer: “I think everybody heard the whistle.” Changing of guard: Left guard Laken Tomlinson replaced Zane Beadles in the starting lineup 18 days after he was acquired in a trade with the Lions.

“I didn’t notice him much, and that’s usually a good thing when it comes to the offensive line,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said.

According to Pro Football Focus, Tomlinson allowed two quarterback hurries and graded out significantly better than Beadles did in Week 1. Briefly: Carlos Hyde had 102 of his his 124 rushing yards in the first half, becoming the first running back to rush for 100 yards in a half against the Seahawks since Adrian Peterson in 2012 . ... The 49ers averaged 8.4 yards on 19 carries, the sixth-highest single-game average in franchise history . ... Defensive end Aaron Lynch had a sack after he was a healthy scratch in Week 1 . ... Inside linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong started in place of Reuben Foster (ankle). He was replaced for a series by Brock Coyle in the second quarter.
