Angelina Shearn Chan

-

Our beloved, bright light Angelina Chan has moved on at the age of 86, departing peacefully from her home while holding her husband’s hand and surrounded by her family. A third-generation native San Franciscan, she and her siblings Vera, Wyman, and Jerrie were raised in Chinatown by their parents, Helen and Garland.

Angie crossed paths with Gilbert, the love of her life, during childhood visits to Isleton, California. Angie and Gilbert married on September 5, 1950, and recently celebrated over 67 years together. In the mid-1950s, they settled into their Richmond District home where they lived a full and busy life – raising four children, caring for family and friends, and contributing to the community.

In the 1970s, Angie discovered her passion for ceramics, first selling her pottery to benefit the Japanese Community Youth Center and later the Kimochi Senior Center. An avid ceramics instructor, Angie taught her students for decades, developing innumerable artistic friendships along the way.

Angie will be greatly missed by her husband Gilbert; sister Jerrie; daughters Chris, Karen, and Kathryn; son Kevin; son-inlaw Mike; grandson Danny; granddaughter-in-law Rosie; granddogs Jake, Bernie, and Aber; as well as family and friends. She taught us what matters most in life is caring for family, friends, the community, and art. We know she is now at peace and reunited with loved ones who have gone before her. We will always keep her indomitable spirit and sustaining love in our hearts.

The family is grateful to Angie’s exemplary physician, Dr. James A. Davis, for his many years of attentive and loving care.

In accordance with Angie’s wishes, there will be a visitation (without a formal service) on Friday, September 29th from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at McAvoy O’Hara & Evergreen Mortuary, 4545 Geary Blvd. (at 10th Avenue), San Francisco, CA. A nearby gathering for family and friends to celebrate Angie’s life will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Angelina Chan to Kimochi Senior Center, 1840 Sutter Street, Issei Memorial Hall, San Francisco, CA 94115.
