Virginia D. Anderlini

-

January 14, 1913 – September 26, 2017

Virginia ‘Ginny’ Anderlini, 104, passed away peacefully on September 26, at the Coventry Place Senior Living Facility surrounded by her loving family. Born of immigrant parents from Northern Italy who resided in San Francisco in the heart of North Beach, Virginia’s first language was Italian. Shortly after Virginia graduated from Galileo High School, she met a lawyer who offered her a position as a legal secretary. Over the years, amongst the interesting people she met while working at the law office, was a handsome young lawyer named Elios ‘Andy’ Anderlini. After a long courtship Ginny and Andy married in 1937 and celebrated over 65 years together until his passing in 2004.

In 1941, Ginny and her husband moved into their iconic Mediterranean-style home in San Francisco, located on the Filbert Steps at Montgomery Street, perched on the side of Telegraph Hill. This is where they raised their only child Terry Anderlini. Andy eventually built Ginny a famous garden teeming with gorgeous roses. Ginny liked to boast that she grew up on the corner of Union and Montgomery streets, about a block away, and was proud to note that she had lived on the hill longer than anyone else. She lived there until 2008 when she moved into assisted living at the Coventry Place.

She is survived by her son Terry Anderlini and daughter-in-law Regan Anderlini; grandchildren Andy Anderlini and Gina von Esmarch; Gina’s husband Eric, and her great-grandchildren Gabriella and Alexander von Esmarch. She was blessed with the love and support of her niece and nephews Lyn Anderlini, Phillip Anderlini, and Victor Anderlini and their families. She enjoyed a legacy of numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She has joined her parents Emilio Caliari and Felicita Turcatti and her sister Edna Caliari.

Ginny had a passion for knowledge and joy for friendships. She credits her long life to having survived the influenza pandemic of 1918. From a young age she played piano and was nearly whisked away to Italy by her teacher to be groomed as a professional pianist. She will always be remembered for her gourmet cooking, her epic cakes, her passion for travel, life, love of music, and sage advice. Upon entering her home you were always greeted with a smile and a glimmer in her eye.

Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 5:00pm at the St. Francis Yacht Club, Northwest Room, 99 Yacht Road, San Francisco, CA, 94123.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of Virginia Anderlini to the Treasure Island Sailing Center www. tisailing.org/ or the
