August 1941 - September 2017

Englund, Lawrence – passed with grace and strength on September 17, 2017, with loving family by his side, surrounded by both family friends during his last few weeks.

Lawrence (Larry) Englund, born in 1941, the eldest son of Constance and Eugene Englund, was a native of the Upper Noe Valley District of San Francisco. He attended St. Paul’s Grammar School, St. Ignatius College Preparatory, San Francisco City College, San Francisco State University and earned Real Estate and Legal Certificates. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was stationed in Germany with the 82nd Artillery Battalion Atomic Cannon Unit when the Berlin Wall was built. Larry was a long-time employee of Pacific Gas & Electric Company, where he made many lifelong friends.

He leaves behind his ex-wife, three children, one grandchild and two brothers, ten nephews and nieces, as well as countless friends from all walks of life, from his earliest childhood days in San Francisco to his later years in the East Bay.

Larry loved family, learning, fishing, gardening, reading, working on cars, being a handyman and tinkering with computers. A lifelong “49er Faithful,” he was also devoted to his friends, the law, and his country. He overcame alcohol and tobacco addictions and led an honest life for his 76 years on earth.

He waits for his family and friends to join him many years from now.

Private memorial services for friends and family are planned for mid-October. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Ignatius College Preparatory, 2001 37th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94116 or www.siprep.org.
