Michael C. Hudson

-

We celebrate the life of Michael Calvert Hudson who passed away at home on September 26, 2017, after a brief illness. He was 86.

Mike will be greatly missed for his sharp wit and wisdom and off-beat view of life. As he said about himself, he “thought too much about things most people don’t think enough about.” He was an excellent conversationalist, always quick with a joke, political observation, or sage words of advice. It was never boring when Mike was at the dinner table.

Mike was born on July 27, 1931, in NJ, and at age 10 moved to Palo Alto with parents Hoyt and Margaret and brother Randolph. Mike graduated from Palo Alto High and studied journalism at Stanford University (BA ‘53, MA ‘54) where he was The Daily sports editor. He served two years in the army and spent the next 35 years as a journalist with UPI San Francisco.

After retiring, Mike pursued his passions fulltime. He was a frequent flea market seller into his 80’s and an avid film buff whose movie ratings were legendary. A lifelong sports fan, Mike was recently recognized by the 49ers as having seen the most games of any fan. He was the 1981 California Monopoly champ.

Mike is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary (Hahn) Hudson, daughters Margaret and Sarah Hudson, sons-in-law Chris Kallenburg and John Tull, grandchildren Jennifer and Amanda Kallenburg and Jack Tull, and nieces, nephews, extended family, and good friends.

Mike requested a small family gathering and any gifts be made to the SFMarin Food Bank.
