Kathleen J. Lowe

-

Dec 1, 1947 - Aug 8, 2017

Kathleen Jane Lowe, known as Edith to her husband Franklin, Mom to her sons Michael and Elliott, Kathy to friends and family, and Mrs. Lowe to the students of Hall Middle School, passed away on August 8th, 2017 at the age of 69.

Kathy was born to the late John and Margaret Powers on December 1st, 1947 in Harvard, IL. She graduated from Richmond High School, in Richmond, IL before moving to Chicago to live with her sister Rosie and friend Helen Hallquist. Kathy went on to make stops in Los Angeles, where she met Franklin working for ABC-TV, San Francisco, where they married, Chicago, again, the birthplace of Michael, and New York, Elliott’s birthplace, before moving to Larkspur, CA where she spent 32 years raising her family.

Upon moving to Larkspur, Kathy began volunteering with the school district, petitioning for the school parcel tax, selling scrip, and helping in the Hall Middle School Library, before accepting a position as the school’s library aid. She spent 17 years sharing her love of books with the students of Hall and retired in 2015.

Kathy spent countless days watching baseball. First, it was in support of her sons, whom she proudly watched from little league through high school. In 1997, she moved on to the big leagues when Franklin began working for the Oakland Athletics and you could find the two of them in row 26 of section 121 nearly every game for 20 seasons.

Those who shared time with Kathy for a few minutes, or a lifetime, received love. It was constant in her words, smile, embrace, and food. A gifted cook and natural decorator, she would put together some of the most memorable holiday meals and celebrations at her home for family and friends. Although Kathy had a variety of interests, caring for others was most important to her and she never missed an opportunity to lend an ear or share a kind word.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 38 years, Franklin, sons Michael and Elliott, daughter-in-law Judy, and siblings Mary, Johnny, Jerry, Rosie, and Pat, along with their spouses and families.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life being held for Kathy on Saturday, October 21, from 11am – 2pm, at Perry’s in Larkspur, located at 234 Magnolia Avenue. In lieu of flowers and other considerations, the family requests donations to the Arthritis National Research Foundation (www.curearthritis.org) or a charity of your choice.
