Julia Frances Fitzgerald (nee Verling)

Passed peacefully in her own home on September 25, 2017 at the grand age of 91. Beloved wife of the late Jeremiah C. Fitzgerald, loving mother to William (Constance), Mary, Jeremiah Patrick, Julie Anne and Susan Fitzgerald, proud Nana to Kerry Fitzgerald. Native of Lakeview, OR and graduate of Lakeview High (a lifetime “Honker”), Oregon State and Univ of Oregon, was a ranch cook at the MC Ranch, largest cattle ranch west of the Mississipp­i in Adel, OR before moving to San Francisco in the late 40’s. The last of her generation of the Lakeview Verling clan, she is predecease­d by her parents, Francis K. and Mary O’Keeffe Verling, and her siblings, Walter, Jeremiah, George, Thomas, Francis, Mary, Morgan, Laura and William. Cherished aunt to many nephews and nieces. Long-time parishione­r (hot dog lunches) at Holy Angels in Colma, and then at St. Stephen (Bingo/50 +). A student-athlete in her own right, she cheered heartily at the numerous sports events of her children and grand daughter at Holy Angels, St Stephen, St Ignatius, Mercy Burlingame and Westmoor. Charter member (a founder of the Leo T. Walsh scholarshi­p fund and ardent Librarian/32-50) of United Irish Cultural Center and United Irish Societies, Rebel Cork Benevolent-Ladies’ Auxiliary and Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians- Division 2. Mom loved relaxing in her garden in Sonoma, jaunts to Tahoe and Cache Creek, ice cream, and returning to her ancestral roots at Oxclose, Newmarket, County Cork (Duhallow). Her family was her passion. Friends may visit Sunday, October 1, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. at DUGGAN’S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City, where a rosary service will be held at 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Stephen Church, 451 Eucalyptus Drive, San Francisco at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017. Donations may be made to the Leo T. Walsh Scholarshi­p Fund, UICC, 2700 45th Ave, San Francisco, CA 94116. Internment: Holy Cross Cemetery.
