The Raiders made a $50,000 donation to a fund for victims of Sunday’s mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest country-music festival in their future hometown, Las Vegas.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, families and first responders,” the team said in a statement released Monday. “The heart of the Raider Nation goes out to Las Vegas.”

Head coach Jack Del Rio opened his Monday afternoon news conference by addressing the shooting.

“It was kind of numbing to hear about something like that,” Del Rio said. “I just want to offer up prayers for all those affected. I think we’re all affected in some way.

“The structure of what we have to do kind of goes on, but there’s no doubt that that display of evil was … I can’t think of anything maybe other than 9/11 — that type of thing where that many lives are affected, that many people are directly affected. … It’s a little bit numbing.”

The verified crowd-funding campaign to which the team contributed had raised nearly $2.8 million by 10 p.m. Monday to aid victims and their families. It was started by Clark County (Nev.) Commission Chair Steve Sisolak and Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo.

The Raiders are scheduled to move to Las Vegas by the 2020 NFL season, although the move is dependent on when construction finishes on their Las Vegas stadium. Freelance writer Michael Wagaman
