Browns’ Garrett cleared for debut

-

Six months after being drafted, Myles Garrett can finally show why he was the No. 1 pick out of Texas A&M.

Garrett missed Cleveland’s first four games — all losses — with a high right-ankle sprain. But the 21-year-old defensive end made it through a week of practice without any trouble, and he’ll make his regular-season debut Sunday for the Browns against the New York Jets.

“It’s special,” he said about the prospect of a Game 1 sack. “It’s like a fat guy’s touchdown. But whatever I can do to affect the game and just be a helping hand for this defense, if we can just help get a win on this field, I’ll do whatever I can, whatever that takes.”

For the Jets, running back Matt Forte (turf toe) and defensive lineman Kony Ealy (shoulder) will miss the game because of injuries. Bilal Powell will again sub for Forte after he rushed for a career-high 163 yards Sunday against Jacksonville.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be without center Mitch Morse (sprained foot) and right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (sprained knee) when they face Houston on Sunday night.

Packers running back Ty Montgomery (broken ribs) is listed as doubtful against the Cowboys . ... Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota (hamstring) will be a game-time decision against the Dolphins . ... Bills cornerback E.J. Gaines (groin) is listed as questionable against the Bengals, and receiver Jordan Matthews and linebacker Ramon Humber have both been ruled out with broken thumbs.
