Resident of Daly City, CA Margaret was born on August 23, 1916, in Montesano, Washington, to Gena and Mikal Espedal and departed this life on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the age of 101. She was predeceased by her loving husband Leslie E. Mulhair in 1997, her parents Gena and Mikal Espedal and her brother Kenneth (Delphene) Espedal. Loving Mother of William (Celina) Mulhair, Kathy Stout, Betty (Wesley) Hydrick, and Leslie (Karen) Mulhair; proud grandmother of ten grandchildren, Aura Mulhair, Frank (Karen) Mulhair, Lisa (Cesar) Cornista, Daniel (Dominique) Stout, Steven (Chelsea) Hydrick, Richard (Robbin) Hydrick, Danielle (Brad) Alexander, Chris Mulhair, Michelle (David) Manning, Kelly Mulhair; and adoring Great Grandmother to five great grandchildren, Raymond Bailon, Ethan and Sonja Mulhair, Ryan and Hannah Alexander. She is also survived by her cherished nephew Raymond (Christie) Warren. She will be greatly missed by all.

After high school, Margaret attended two years of business college in Washington but afterwards was unable to find work in Hoquiam. She had a girlfriend who found work in San Francisco and she encouraged Margaret to come to the Golden State. Her Father agreed to the move under the condition that she save $200 and buy a round-trip ticket on the train. In 1937, she took the train to San Francisco. She easily found a job after two weeks, working for a Japanese importexport shipping company. However, once the U.S. was at war with Japan, she left the shipping company and acquired another bookkeeping job, which she held until shortly after she married. Margaret met Les, the love of her life, at a dance and they were married for 55 years until his death in 1997. Shortly after they were married, Margaret and Les went into business for themselves, starting a trucking and excavating business, of which Margaret was the bookkeeper. After forty years in the business, she and Les retired in 1985.

Margaret was a very independent, strong woman; she had to be in order to raise four children, assist in a family business and provide the bookkeeping skills. She survived two hip surgeries with determination but was frustrated that she was unable to stay independent after her second surgery at the age of 100 years.

She found great joy in baking and sharing her chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls with family members and friends. And no one could top her pumpkin pies at Thanksgiving and banana cream pies at Christmas (the secret being heavy cream and whipping cream, respectively).

Visitation and rosary will be at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City, CA on Thursday, October 12, at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, October 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Epiphany, 827 Vienna Street, San Francisco, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Catholic Charities.
