Robert O. Sayer

-

April 1, 1924 - September 16, 2017

Bob, a resident of Oakland, died peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the age of 93.

Bob grew up in White Bear Lake, MN, served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, graduated from the University of Minnesota and received his MBA from Golden Gate University. He worked as a corporate controller for several manufacturing firms and his entrepreneurial adventures included Polytherm, Inc., Ceramic Tile Sales, Inc. and Career Builder, Inc. But it was his family life that defined him. Together with his wife, Bob raised three children, actively supporting their sports, scouting and educational choices and sharing his Christian convictions. He was a lifelong Episcopalian who vigorously engaged in community service to feed the hungry, seek justice for the marginalized, denounce violence, and promote peace.

Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marion; his children, Mark Sayer of Canberra, AUS; Barbara Cutter of Colleyville, TX; and Karen Bennett of Oakland. The Sayers also cherish their children’s spouses, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a large family of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 114 Montecito Ave, Oakland, on Sunday, October 29 at 2 PM. The final resting place of his ashes will be Grace Cathedral, San Francisco.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Center for Employment Opportunities, an employment and life skills organization for ex-offenders. Please designate gifts “In Memory of Robert Sayer” and to the Oakland, CA location. https://ceoworks.org
