Lewis, News return home for 2 benefits
Even though he has spent the past two decades living on a ranch in Montana, Huey Lewis is still considered one of the pillars of the Bay Area music scene.
Lewis and his band, the News, have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, while their 1980s singles such as “I Want a New Drug,” “The Heart of Rock & Roll” and “If This Is It” have become indispensable retro hits. The band is working on a new album, due next year, and will return to its old stomping grounds to get in on the action for the 40th anniversary of the Mill Valley Film Festival, where Huey Lewis and the News are scheduled to play two benefit concerts on Sunday, Oct. 15, at Sweetwater Music Hall.
“I’m not going to get paid, and I’ll know half the people there, so I can do whatever the hell I want,” says Lewis, “which means they’re going to hear new songs.”
