USC player agrees to plea deal in sex case

Osa Masina, a suspended USC football player accused of sexual assault in Utah, pleaded guilty Thursday to misdemeanor charges in a deal with prosecutors.

The agreement carries no possible state prison time for Masina, 20, but he could be sentenced to three years in county jail and probation. Masina won’t be listed as a sex offender.

Masina was initially charged with rape and two counts of forcible sodomy, all felonies. The woman testified that Masina assaulted her after edible marijuana and alcohol left her nearly unable to move at a July 2016 party in the Salt Lake City suburb of Cottonwood Heights.

Masina, who is not expected to return to the USC team, contended the encounter was consensual but didn’t take into account the woman’s clear impairment.

Auburn says it has received a federal grand jury subpoena in the bribery case against basketball associate head coach Chuck Person, and Oklahoma State has also been subpoenaed to detail its communications with three key players as part of bribery scandal that’s thrown college basketball into turmoil.

Also, a federal judge in New York has refused to impose bail for Adidas representative James Gatto, who is embroiled in the scandal.

Lamont Evans, an assistant coach at Oklahoma State who was fired after being charged in the case, was freed on $100,000 bond Thursday after appearing in the same courtroom.

They are among 10 people charged last month in an alleged scheme to bribe assistant coaches in exchange for steering topflight NBA prospects to a particular agent or financial adviser.
