Canucks’ road trip continues to go well

-

Sven Baertschi scored two goals, including one of his team’s three second-period strikes, as Vancouver beat the Red Wings 4-1 in Detroit on Sunday.

Derek Dorsett and Jake Virtanen also scored for the Canucks, who improved to 3-1 on their five-game trip.

Dorsett’s goal was his fourth of the trip. He scored twice Friday night in Buffalo.

“This is obviously a great feeling,” Dorsett said. “The boys are enjoying reminding me about what is happening, and that’s been fun.”

Detroit has lost four in a row, and head coach Jeff Blashill didn’t mince words on a night his team was outshot 37-21.

“It was a brutal effort. I thought it was an embarrassing effort, not even close to the level of competitiveness you have to have,” Blashill said. “We should be embarrassed of ourselves, from me at the top all the way on down. We got outcompeted, outworked, outdetailed.” Boyle update: New Jersey forward Brian Boyle, diagnosed with leukemia during training camp, practiced for the first time since his illness was revealed publicly, NHL.com reported. There is no timetable for his return to game action.

Fans applauded when Boyle took the ice.

“There were moments when I was a little embarrassed,” Boyle said. “I tried to keep my head in the game and practice, but I heard them and it was much appreciated.” Briefly: Ottawa forward Bobby Ryan is headed to injured reserve and is expected to be sidelined at least a month with a broken finger, the result of being hit by shot during a win over Toronto on Saturday . ...
