Colin Kaepernick

The former 49ers quarterback has remained quiet as the protest movement he began last season has swept across the country, but PageSix.com reported Tuesday that he’s going to put ink to paper after signing a book deal worth just more than $1 million with Random House’s One World. Chris Jackson heads One World, a division of the publishing giant that works primarily with African American authors (he has published Jay-Z and Ta-Nehisi Coates). Kaepernick, who remains a free agent and has filed a collusion grievance against the NFL, began taking a knee before games last season to protest what he saw as racial injustice and police brutality in this country.

George R.R. Martin

The author certainly knows how to detail conflict and struggle. But enough about “Game of Thrones.” He’s talking about his beloved Jets. On LiveJournal.com, Martin wrote: “Life for a Jets fan is an unending torment. Last week the refs gave the Pats a win . ... This week the Jets did it to themselves, blowing a twotouchdown lead in the fourth quarter to lose to the Fins. Total choke job.” He bemoaned Josh McCown’s play, but predicted that the team won’t bench the quarterback “and win just enough games to make sure they don't get a good QB prospect in the draft, thereby assuring us of another decade of mediocrity. That's the Jet Way.”
