Fateful QB draw was Carr’s decision

Derek Carr said he called for a quarterback draw in the first half of the Raiders’ win over Kansas City last Thursday — his second game back after fracturing several small bones on his spine.

“That was all me,” Carr said Wednesday. “Don’t blame the coaches, they didn’t want me getting hit. It was not the coaches. That was all me. So I’ll take the blame.”

The play, on 3rd-and-10, gained a yard. Carr came out of it OK, but the Raiders felt its effect in another way.

Marcus Peters’ late hit on Carr touched off the skirmish that led to Marshawn Lynch sprinting onto the field and being ejected for making contact with an official. Lynch was suspended for one game without pay by the league and will not play Sunday at Buffalo.

“I was like, ‘Wait, time out. I just got tackled and now people are getting kicked out,’ ” Carr said.

“And that hurts, man. Because we love Marshawn, we love playing with him, we love him in the building, we love him on game day. So for him to have to miss this game, it’s hard. But as Coach (Jack) Del Rio probably said, it’s next man up, and we have a good stable of backs that can do it.”

Oakland signed running back Elijah Hood from the practice squad to take Lynch’s spot on the active roster for this week. Hood, a seventhround pick out of North Carolina in this year’s draft, gives the Raiders depth behind Jalen Richard, DeAndre Washington and Jamize Olawale.

The Raiders also signed defensive lineman Jhaustin Thomas, an undrafted rookie who was with Cleveland’s practice squad last month, to

their practice squad. Familiar faces: Del Rio said the Buffalo roster includes “a couple of my favorites in terms of effort-filled, hard-nosed, good football players that give you everything they have.” Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander, receiver Andre Holmes and running back Taiwan Jones played for Del Rio in Oakland.

Holmes has eight catches for 46 yards and two touchdowns this season. Jones has one catch for 11 yards, and Alexander ranks second on the defense with 25 solo tackles and two sacks.

“They’ve all contributed in different ways and in different amounts at this point,” Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott said on a conference call. “We’re happy to have them on board.” Injury report: Cornerbacks Gareon Conley (shin) and David Amerson (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday. Conley, the Raiders’ firstround draft pick, has appeared in just two games and has not played since Week 3.

Linebackers Cory James (knee), Marquel Lee (ankle) and Nicholas Morrow (ankle), safety Karl Joseph (groin), tackle Marshall Newhouse (foot) and tight end Lee Smith (knee) were limited. Lee, James and Newhouse were inactive against the Chiefs.
