Maffre to head Lines
Muriel Maffre, the former principal dancer for the San Francisco Ballet and most recently executive director of the Museum of Performance and Design in San Francisco, has been named chief executive officer of Alonzo King Lines Ballet.
“We are so pleased to have a visionary like Muriel Maffre take the helm at Lines Ballet,” said artistic director and choreographer Alonzo King. “She is an innovative thinker, a brilliant communicator and strategist, and, of course, a beautiful artist who understands the spirit of Lines Ballet and the core of what we do.”
Maffre retired as a San Francisco Ballet dancer in 2007 after 17 years and then became involved with education and administration. In addition to the Museum of Performance and Design and San Francisco Ballet, she has done work for Aurora Theater, Oakland Museum of California, Cantor Arts Center and Richmond Art Center, to name a few.
Maffre replaces Karim Baer, who served as executive director from 2015 to 2017. Maffre takes over in time for the Lines fall season when the company performs “The Propelled Heart,” a collaboration with vocalist Lisa Fischer Nov. 15-19.
The Museum of Performance and Design is expected to begin a formal search for a new executive director with the aid of a management consulting firm.
