Eagles acquire Ajayi in deadline deal
The NFL trade deadline finally featured some big-name buzz.
The league-leading Eagles bolstered their running attack Tuesday by adding 2016 Pro Bowler Jay Ajayi from Miami.
The Bills (5-2), who are off to their best start since 1993, upgraded their receiving group by acquiring Kelvin Benjamin from Carolina for their thirdand seventh-round picks in next year’s draft.
The trades came a day after the Seahawks agreed to send cornerback Jeremy Lane and two draft picks to Houston for left tackle Duane Brown.
The Eagles sent a 2018 fourthround pick to the Dolphins for Ajayi, who has 465 yards rushing and is averaging 3.4 yards per carry with no touchdowns after running for 1,272 yards last season.
LeGarrette Blount leads Philadelphia with 467 yards rushing and is averaging 4.7 yards a carry with two touchdowns. Deal or no deal? Cincinnati agreed to a deal to send quarterback AJ McCarron to Cleveland shortly before the trade deadline, but confusion over paperwork prevented the deal from being completed, the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal reported.
Citing a source, the newspaper reported that the Browns emailed a signed trade agreement to the Bengals under the impression Cincinnati would sign the document and send it to the league office. The newspaper reported that the Bengals sent a trade agreement in time to the NFL and copied the Browns on the email, but the document had a signature only from Cincinnati on it. The NFL Players Association asked federal Judge Katherine Polk Failla on Tuesday to suspend her Monday ruling during an appeal. Miller remains hospitalized in New Orleans after tearing an artery while dislocating his knee trying to make a touchdown catch in Sunday’s loss to the Saints.
