John Basil Vlahos fell asleep in the Lord, surrounded by his wife and children at his home in San Mateo, California at the age of 82. Loving Husband of Cynthia Vlahos. Loving Father of Teitsa Mann (Allen), Basil (Rose), Nicholas, Cassandra, and Michael. Loving son of Vasilios (deceased) and Maria (deceased) Vlahos from Messinia, Greece. Loving grandfathe­r of Andrew and Phillip Eisner. Loving brother of George (Pearl, deceased), Tasia Misthos (Nick), and Eugene (Susan). Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Loving cousin of many both in the U.S. and Greece. Loving brother-in-law to Arthur Mello, Cheryl Berry, Victoria Wainwright, Scott Mello, and Craig Mello. Loving godfather to Katrina Misthos, Nicholas Salis, and Victoria Vozikes. Graduate of Lowell High School, University of San Francisco (B.A. History, J.D.). Army Sergeant at Ft. Ord and Ft. Lewis. Past President of the Annunciati­on Cathedral. Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarcha­te of Constantin­ople. Member of the Greek Bar Associatio­n. Member of the Elios Society. Member of the Greek Historical Society. Member of the Greek Orthodox Choir Federation for 66 years. Avid Homeric scholar and author, prolific and generous gardener (especially of tomatoes and figs). Enjoyed playing backgammon, solving jigsaw puzzles, fishing for smelt on Martin’s Beach, and taking long car trips. Friend to all who knew him. Trisagion service to be held Wednesday, November 1st at 7 PM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 999 Brotherhoo­d Way, SF. Funeral to be held Thursday November 2nd, at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Macaria to follow. Internment at Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Colma to follow the Macaria. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Annunciati­on Cathedral Building Fund. May his memory be eternal.
