Mom allegedly used stun gun on teenager
Police arrested a woman suspected of using a stun gun on a 16- year- old girl at California’s Great America amusement park during last weekend’s Halloween Haunt, which was thrown into chaos when multiple groups of teenagers became involved in violent altercations with other park guests.
Leticia Saxton, 44, was in the amusement park for the holiday event when a fight erupted between her daughter and the victim, who attend the same East Bay school, police said. Saxton used the stun gun on the other girl, investigators said.
The El Sobrante woman was arrested Wednesday in Hayward on felony counts of corporal injury to a child, assault with a deadly weapon and assault using a stun gun, said Santa Clara Police Lt. Dan Moreno. She was booked into Santa Clara County jail.
The altercation between the girls was unrelated to the violence and thefts reported in the park the same night. Moreno said a different group of 15 youths were harassing park visitors and stealing phones.
Saxton managed to enter the park with the stun gun despite metal detectors at the park’s entrance. Moreno said that a stun gun would usually trigger the detectors and the person would be subjected to a search.
“Clearly it got slipped through,” Moreno said. “I don’t know how.”
Moreno said Great America is aware of the incident and is reviewing its security procedures.
