Encarnacion Matta, Jr.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Encarnacion Matta, Jr. who passed away peacefully at home on October 13, 2017 in San Francisco with his family and loved ones by his side. He passed following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Jr. will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Jr. was born September 5, 1956 in Texas, the son of the late Encarnacion and Esperanza Reyes Matta. The family later relocated to Tracy, California. Jr. fell in love with San Francisco and the rest is history. He attended Cal Berkeley and graduated from USF in Organizational Behavior.
Jr. retired as a Sales Support Manager from AT& T in 2014, after 35 years of service.
Jr. was a devoted grandfather to his three grandchildren. He was their beloved Papa. Jr. truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with families and friends and spending time with the grandkids. Jr.’ s favorite vacation spot was Hawaii. Jr. loved jazz music and enjoyed many jazz concerts in his spare time. Jr. had an uncanny ability to connect with people in a deep and positive way. Jr. also had a big heart and supported many charitable organizations.
Jr. is survived by his wife, Carolyn Tom of San Francisco, his stepchildren Nicole ( Donovan Nguyen) and Christopher ( Kelly) Tom, and grandchildren Peyton and Ethan Nguyen, and Jacob Tom. He also leaves his brothers, Juan ( Kelly), Luis, Daniel, Steven, Abraham, Joel, Fernando ( Christina) and sister Alicia Uchiyama ( Michael), nephews and nieces of Tracy. Jr. is also survived by many brothers- in- law and sisters- in- law, nephews and nieces of San Francisco. Beloved brothers preceded Jr. in life’s final journey were Carlos and Marco.
A private memorial service will be held in a chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park ( 1000 El Camino Real, Colma, CA 94014, 650755- 1727) on Saturday, November 4th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to “Students Rising Above,” an organization close to Jr.’ s heart.
