Emma Mary Napoli

Emma Napoli passed with peace and grace on October 24, 2017. Predeceased by her loving husband Andrew and devoted daughter Eileen in 2013 she is survived by her children JoAnn Smithson, Thomas Napoli, Rosalia Hambrecht, Andrew Napoli, James Napoli, John Napoli and Emily Napoli, her 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Emma was born in New York City on January 2, 1920 and soon moved to Meduno, Italy where she lived until she returned to NYC when she was 13 years old. She married Andrew in NYC in 1944 and together they raised eight children.

Emma was a gifted musician who could play the piano and organ. As a preteen in Italy she was the local church organist. Shortly after her arrival in NYC, she became the church organist at Sacred Heart Church.

Andrew and Emma moved most of the family to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1974. After she finished raising her children, she returned to her music career. She taught piano for 35 years and was the church organist at Saint Simon’s Church for over 20 years. She was both a gifted teacher and musical performer.

Emma was a devoted Catholic and exemplified her deep beliefs through the love for her husband, children, relatives and friends. She was kind to everyone.

She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose greatest passion was loving and helping others. She was also passionate about music, especially opera.

A memorial mass will be held 11 AM at Saint Simon’s Catholic Church in Los Altos located at 1860 Grant Road on Saturday November 11 with the burial of her ashes to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
