Robert Milton Brown

Robert Milton Brown passed on August 7, 2017, in Des Moines, IA, at the age of 83. Bob was born February 17, 1934, National City, San Diego County, CA to Kenneth Elbert & Evelyn Beth (Christy) Brown.

Bob is survived by his wife, Gwen Haakinson Brown; his sons, David H. (Pam), Michael K. (Madeleine), Robert Michael, Christian N. (Jamie); his sister, Janet Atkins (Richard), sisters in law, JJ Haakinson, Betty Elgin, brother in law, Bill (“Hawk”) Haakinson (Lori), 10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and granddaughter Isabel Bee Brown.

Bob grew up in San Diego and Altadena, CA. Bob was a U.S. Marine with the 1st Marine Division, retiring as a Captain. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and Boalt Hall School of Law. Bob practiced law in San Francisco and later in Tahoe City, a distinguished career spanning more than 50 years. In 2013, Bob and Gwen moved to Des Moines where they were surrounded by the loving Haakinson family and Gwen’s hometown. Favorite restaurants included ‘Famous Dave’s and Chef’s Kitchen.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, 2:00pm, St. Francis Yacht Club, San Francisco, CA.

The family wishes to thank all of the doctors and nurses, particularly Dr. Debra Benjamin, at the VA Med Center, Des Moines, and Wesley Acres Care Center, for their loving care in recent weeks.
