Elizabeth Marie Walsh

Elizabeth M. Walsh, NEE Bessie Marie Akard, AKA Rie, AKA Bess, AKA Liz, passed away peacefully at aged 98 in the presence of her family. Elizabeth was a proud second generation native of San Francisco, growing up in the Marina District, attending Galileo High School and working as a private secretary to William Randolph Hearst. She married Joseph Walsh right after Pearl Harbor and they raised four children in the City. She and Joe moved to Pleasanton in their retirement and she has resided in the Tri-Valley region for the last 35 years. Despite her diminutive size, she was a force to be reckoned with in any organizati­on in which she participat­ed, including Star of the Sea Mother’s Club, Sears Hardware Department, and Kaiser Permanente Volunteers. Elizabeth is predecease­d by her husband, Joseph, her son, Michael, her son-in-law Rod Rodrigues and her granddaugh­ter, Molly. She is survived by her daughters, Sue Walsh Harper (Jim), Pat Walsh Rodrigues, Kathi Walsh, Vicki Quinn, her daughter-in-law, Florence Keene Walsh, nine grandchild­ren, 16 great grandchild­ren and two great-great grandchild­ren. She lived a long, productive life, was well-loved and will be greatly missed.

There will be a Mass to celebrate Elizabeth’s life on Friday, November 10th at 2 pm at St. Augustine’s Church, 3999 Bernal Avenue, Pleasanton.
