Don’t pass tax bill
I desperately need my Sens. Kamala Harris and Dianne Feinstein, along with my Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, to hear what I have to say. I am a doctoral student at UCSF studying new technologies to prevent the spread of HIV and other diseases in low-infrastructure areas. If the new GOP tax bill passes, my tuition waivers will be taxed as income. This will almost certainly require me to take on debt to support myself and my partner as I finish my degree. While I might be able to do this, many other prospective students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds will not be able to front this cost, and will be discouraged from attending graduate school. This bill must not be allowed to pass. William Lykins, San Francisco
