Coyotes top Canadiens for 1st regulation win

Derek Stepan and Christian Fischer scored power-play goals in the third period and the Coyotes rallied to win 5-4 at Montreal on Thursday night for their first regulation victory of the season.

Brad Richardson, Christian Dvorak and Tobias Rieder also scored for the Coyotes, and Antti Raanta made 33 saves.

Arizona snapped a fivegame losing streak to improve to 3-15-3.

Brendan Gallagher, Paul Byron, Joe Morrow and Shea Weber scored for the Canadiens, and Charlie Lindgren stopped 27 shots. Maple Leafs 1, Devils 0: William Nylander scored with 2.2 seconds left in overtime and Frederik Andersen made 42 saves as host Toronto edged New Jersey. Corey Schneider stopped 24 shots for New Jersey.

Penguins 3, Senators 1: Patric Hornqvist and Jake Guentzel each scored in the second period and visiting Pittsburgh held off Ottawa. Riley Sheahan added an empty-net goal, and Matt Murray made 21 saves.

Islanders 6, Hurricanes 4: Johnny Boychuk scored the tie-breaking goal on a slap shot with 4:25 remaining and host New York rallied to beat Carolina.

Lightning 6, Stars 1: Steven Stamkos had two goals and two assists, Andrei Vasilevski­y made 27 saves to for host Tampa Bay in its win over Dallas.

Wild 6, Predators 4: Jason Zucker scored with 2:55 left and host Minnesota scored four goals in less than six minutes in the third period to beat Nashville.

Jets 3, Flyers 2: Bryan Little scored the deciding goal in a shootout and host Winnipeg rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat Philadelph­ia. Mark Scheifele tied it 2-2 when he scored with 49 seconds left in the third period.

Blues 4, Oilers 1: Brayden Schenn had two goals and an assist in visiting St. Louis’ win over Edmonton. Vladimir Sobotka and Alexander Steen also scored for the Blues, and Jake Allen made 29 saves.

Avalanche 6, Capitals 2: Gabriel Landeskog scored three goals — one on a penalty shot — for his first career hat trick and Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and four assists for host Colorado.

Golden Knights 5, Canucks 2: Erik Haula scored the goahead goal in the third period in visiting Vegas’ win over Vancouver.

The teams were sent to the locker rooms with less than a minute left in the second period when a fan was hit in the head by an errant puck. The fan was eventually taken away on a stretcher. There was no immediate update from the Canucks on the fan’s status.

Bruins 2, Kings 1: Zdeno Chara scored the winning goal in visiting Boston’s victory over Los Angeles.
