A’s trade Brugman to O’s

-

The A’s completed a minor trade Wednesday, dealing outfielder Jaycob Brugman to the Baltimore Orioles for a player to be named or cash.

The A’s had designated Brugman for assignment Monday as part of their roster shuffling to clear space for prospects whom the club wants to protect from the Dec. 14 Rule 5 draft.

Brugman played in 48 games for the A’s as a 25-year-old rookie, but was not in their longterm plans. He hit .266 with three homers and a .689 OPS with Oakland. He was a 17th-round draft pick from BYU in 2013.

The Orioles also acquired minor-league pitcher Konner Wade from Colorado for $500,000 in international signing bonus pool allocation.

Philadelphia added Pedro Guerrero, 28, as assistant hitting coach. Guerrero was a bench coach the past two seasons for the Ogden Raptors, the rookie-level affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. A former infielder, Guerrero played in the Dodgers’ minor-league system between 2006-13. Soccer: Chelsea advanced to the knockout stage of the Champions League with a game to spare after beating 10man Qarabag 4-0.

Barcelona needed only a point to reach the Round of 16, and the Spanish superpower got exactly that against Juventus. A 0-0 draw at last year’s runner-up was enough to ensure the top spot in Group D.

Already through, Paris Saint-Germain conceded the first goal of its European campaign in the first minute — before then unleashing its unstoppable firepower to thrash Celtic 7-1 in Paris.

A goalless draw at Basel would have been enough for Manchester United to top Group A, but the Premier League club slipped to its first group stage loss, going down 1-0 on a goal conceded just a minute from the end of the match. College football: The University of Minnesota and first-year coach P.J. Fleck, 36, agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2022 season. Fleck signed a five-year, $18 million contract in January. The Gophers are 5-6 this season.
